She-Hulk Episode 5 Review: Mean, Green and Straight Poured into These Jeans

Source: HBO

Overall: 7.8/10

Story 7.9/10

Jen Walters has her name stolen. And she has to make a decision after she’s called into the principal’s office. Her boss reprimands her for making the firm look like it can’t take care of its own messes. In short, it wouldn’t look good for a lawyer at a high-profile law firm to be fleeced for her name, image and likeness by a layperson.

Not a lot happened in this episode. The pacing has slowed a bit. But the writers used the downtime to reveal character.

Character 7.7/10

Jen has to make a big choice this week. She either has to let go of a name that she never wanted in the first place or come to terms with the fact that She-Hulk is a part of her now. This viewer is not sure that she’s completely embraced it. After all, she is given an ultimatum.

So Jen has some outside motivation to keep the name. And that's a step in the right direction. Perhaps, farther down the line, the audience will see some internal motivation for keeping it as she grows more comfortable with her other half.

Final Thoughts

Jen fights for her name. And it’s certainly on the line in this one. But what does that name mean to her? Shakespeare once asked what was in a name. This viewer would wager that it’s everything. Only time will tell if Jen feels the same.
