Overall: 8.8/10

Story 8.9/10

Tensions are at an all-time high in a place that resembles 1960s Los Angeles with some marked differences. Cooper Howard works a children’s birthday party when the unthinkable happens—an event that changes America forever.

The story picks up a few hundred years in the future. Society is broken into factions. But ultimately, it still comes down to the haves and have-nots.

The writers spin an entertaining story, combining several genres: western, dystopian, fantasy, sci-fi and horror. They do it without things feeling cluttered. The world-building is top-notch, especially when coupled with well-placed and informative flashbacks. They aid in introducing new characters and providing more depth to the ones already seen.

Character 8.7/10

Lucy Maclean (Ella Purnell) has a bubbly personality. She’s a truly good person who does all the right things and makes all the right moves. But the vault life is all she’s ever known. A little time in the outside world can change a person. So can the truth. Will she remain the same person? Or will the truth of the outside world transform her forever?

Maximus (Aaron Moten) is an opportunist, who has been given little opportunity. But what little comes his way, he always makes the most of. He just needs to figure out what's more important to him. Is it climbing the ladder of The Brotherhood? Or is it living out the rest of his days with the love of his life in peace and safety?

Cooper Howard (Walton Goggins) is a man of prominence initially. But he has a great fall from grace. Cooper becomes a hated figure. He pays dearly for his sins and loses a lot. But he has a chance to get at least some of it back.

Norm Maclean (Moises Arias) is a self-professed coward. He may have picked the wrong time to suddenly become brave. Curiosity can stoke that emotion. But sometimes fear is a good thing.

Barb Howard (Francis Turner) is an interesting character. Her family only knows her good side. But she’s willing to turn the world to ash so long as she and the ones she loves aren't singed.

Lee Moldaver (Sarita Choudhury) could be considered an enlightened despot. She seeks to build a new world out of the ashes of the old. But she’s willing to murder as many people as she needs to realize her dream.
